About This Spot

Stepping into Seoul Soondae Restaurant is like slipping into a moment suspended between bustling Annandale and the quieter rhythm of a Korean neighborhood tucked away from the crowd. The air carries a warm, familiar hum—a mixture of quiet chatter, the clatter of dishes, and a subtle spiciness that hints at the comfort food to come. It feels like a welcoming haven where time slows, inviting you to share meals that have the power to connect and soothe.

This is a place where Korean culinary traditions take center stage, not by ceremony but through the steady, unpretentious craft of authentic warmth. The menu flows like a well-loved storybook of flavors, with soondae—the tender and moist Korean blood sausage—holding a cherished place alongside richly seasoned pork dishes and hearty, soulful soups. There’s a quiet pride in the dishes here, where every bite reveals layers of experience and history, echoing the spirit of Seoul’s early 2000s neighborhood eateries.

Whether you find yourself savoring the satisfying spice of a stir-fried pork trotter dish or the gentle comfort of curry rice, the food invites sharing and conversation. It’s a pace where stories unfold naturally, where friends gather to revisit memories or forge new ones over warm bowls and sizzling plates. The atmosphere carries the feeling of a local spot where faces become familiar, and the kitchen’s steady rhythm feels like the heartbeat of the neighborhood.

Seoul Soondae Restaurant holds a subtle but distinct place for those who seek the kind of Korean flavors that linger beyond the first taste—comforting, sometimes boldly spiced, yet always genuine. The attentive service and the authentic atmosphere create a sense of belonging, as if you’ve discovered a small corner of Seoul right in the heart of Virginia, waiting quietly to be embraced again and again.

We always come here for the maeun jokbal, it’s spicy but really really delicious if you can handle it. Spicy squid kimbap is also recommended.

I have been going to this restaurant for more than 30 years. Over the years, the owner has been changed. But still, delicious foods with a Korean style vibe. Feels like I am in one of the hystoric old restaurants in Seoul.

Under new ownership, this OG Korean spot in Annandale is slinging Korean comfort food and classics again like it's 2000. It's hard to find this kind of authenticity, and it feels like being transported back to Seoul in the early 2000s. The soups are phenomenal. So many perfect bites. Come with friends. Come with friends.

I found this place more than 10 years ago, moved out of the area, but because of personal reasons I go back to Northern Virginia every year, and every year I visit this place. The food quality has been through ups and downs, but this year it was great. We really enjoyed it. The fried spicy pork was so tender soft and delicious with lots of skin. The soondae was soft, lots of moisture and warm. The kimchi pancake was delicious as well. It exceeded our expectation. Hot tea was especially good to have at the end of the meal in winter time. We will keep going back to this place.

It is one of the best places in the DMV area to enjoy delicious Soondae or other pork dishes. The food is generally delicious, and I highly recommend its Soondae dishes, which are close to authentic Soondae sold in Korea. Both service and atmosphere are satisfactory.
